The article, "Improved healthcare economic outcomes after liposomal bupivacaine administration" provides a unique perspective on the use of long-acting analgesia in breast surgery and we wish to congratulate the authors [1]. Liposomes are microscopic structures consisting of a phospholipid bilayer encapsulating an aqueous core and confer specific drug release patterns including increased stability and longer duration of drug release [2]. There are increasing reports of liposomal formulations in postoperative analgesia with key advantages proposed as reducing opioid intake and shortening inpatient stay.
