We read with great interest the letter by Das et al1 in relation to our recently published article showing that glutaraldehyde-polymerized allergoids coupled to nonoxidized mannan (PM) are hypoallergenic conjugates targeting dendritic cells (DCs) that enhance allergen uptake and promote healthy T-cell responses to allergens.2 Das et al reported that human basophils lack expression of mannose receptor (MR) and DC-specific intercellular adhesion molecule-3-grabbing nonintegrin (DC-SIGN) and therefore suggested that human basophils may not directly respond through these receptors and be modulated by PM.
