B cells play an underrecognized role in the pathophysiology of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), straddling the interface between immunity and inflammation through production of antibodies and cytokines. IgM, IgG, IgA, and IgE levels have previously been found to be elevated in nasal polyp (NP) mucosa from patients with CRS with NPs compared to levels in control subjects. However, IgD has remained underexplored in patients with airway inflammatory diseases, despite comprising up to 10% of human nasal gland immunoglobulins.
