Anti-Tumor Necrosis Factor α-induced Lupus Erythematosus Panniculitis

Abstract

Anti-tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) therapies are used with success in many chronic inflammatory diseases. A wide range of adverse events has been reported in patients receiving these agents¹, including lichenoid eruptions, lupus-like syndrome^{1, 2} and psoriasiform eruptions³. Lupus erythematosus panniculitis (LEP) is a rare variant of cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE), which occurs approximately in 1%-3% of CLE. Here we report a case of a patient with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) treated with anti-TNFα that developed skin lesions clinically and pathologically compatible with LEP.
