Skin ultrasound features of Merkel-cell carcinoma

Abstract

Merkel-cell carcinoma (MCC) is an uncommon, highly aggressive skin tumor with a low but growing incidence¹. MCC usually shows a non-specific clinical presentation. Diagnostic confirmation by histopathological and immunohistochemical evaluation are required².

The role of ultrasound is becoming increasingly important in the diagnosis of numerous skin cancers due to its ability to recognize different sonographic patterns and accurately delimit the real tumour dimensions³.
