Enabling NMR studies of high molecular weight systems without the need for deuteration: The XL‐ALSOFAST experiment with delayed decoupling
Current biological research increasingly focusses on large human proteins and their complexes. Such proteins are difficult to study by NMR spectroscopy because they often can only be produced in higher eukaryotic expression systems, where deuteration is hardly feasible. Here, we present the XL‐ALSOFAST‐[ 13 C, 1 H]‐HMQC experiment with much improved sensitivity for fully protonated high‐molecular weight proteins. For the tested systems ranging from 100 to 240 kDa in size, 3‐fold higher sensitivity...

SERS‐Active MIL‐100(Fe) Sensory Array for Ultrasensitive and Multiplex Detection of VOCs
The application of metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) as SERS‐active platforms in multiplex volatile organic compounds (VOCs) detection is still unexplored. Herein, we demonstrate MIL‐100 (Fe) serves as an ideal SERS substrate for VOCs detection. The limit of detection (LOD) of MIL‐100(Fe) for toluene sensing can reach 2.5 ppm, and can be even further decreased to 0.48 ppb level when “hot spots” in between Au nanoparticles are employed onto MIL‐100 (Fe) substrate, resulting in an enhancement factor...

Fe Single Atom on MoS2 Nanosheets for N2 Electroreduction into Ammonia
Ammonia (NH 3 ) plays a pivotal role in our daily life considering its wide applications in fertilizer industry. Many efforts have been devoted to achieving highly efficient artificial synthesis of ammonia. Herein, we reported a novel Fe‐MoS 2 catalyst with Fe atomically dispersed on MoS 2 nanosheets by imitating the natural nitrogenase to boost N 2 electroreduction into NH 3 at room temperature. The Fe‐MoS 2 nanosheets exhibited a faradic efficiency of 18.8% with a yield rate of 8.63...

A Self‐assembled Anion‐binding Cryptand for the Highly Selective Liquid‐Liquid Extraction of Phosphate Anions.
The ligands L1 and L2 form trinuclear self‐assembled complexes with Cu2+ (i.e. [(L1)2Cu3]6+ or [(L2)2Cu3]6+) which both act as a host to a variety of anions. Inclusion of long aliphatic chains on these ligands allows the assemblies to extract anions from aqueous media into organic solvents. Phosphate can be removed from water efficiently and highly selectively even in the presence of other anions.

J‐aggregate‐based FRET monitoring of drug release from polymer nanoparticles with high drug loading
Understanding drug release kinetics is critical for the development of drug‐loaded nanoparticles. In this study, we developed a J‐aggregate‐based Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) method to investigate the release of our novel high drug‐loading (50 wt%) nanoparticles, in comparison with the low drug‐loading (0.5 wt%) nanoparticles. Single‐dye loaded nanoparticles form J‐aggregates because of the high dye loading (50 wt%), resulting in a large red shift (~110 nm) in the fluorescence spectrum....

Direct observation of defect‐aided structural evolution in Ni‐rich layered cathode
Ni‐rich LiNi 1‐x‐y Mn x Co y O 2 (NMC) layered compounds have become the dominated cathode for lithium ion batteries. The role of crystallographic defects on their structure evolution and consequent performance degradation during electrochemical cycling is not yet fully understood. Here, we investigated the structural evolution of Ni‐rich NMC cathode in a solid‐state cell via in‐situ transmission electron microscopy. We identified antiphase boundary (APB) and twin boundary (TB) separating...

An Integrated Microfluidic Probe for Mass Spectrometry Imaging of Biological Samples
Ambient ionization based on liquid extraction is widely used in mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) of molecules in biological samples. The development of nanospray desorption electrospray ionization (nano‐DESI) has enabled the robust imaging of tissue sections with high spatial resolution. However, the fabrication of the nano‐DESI probe is challenging, which limits its dissemination to the broader scientific community. Herein, we describe the design and performance of an integrated microfluidic probe...
