Abstract Background Rapid on‐site evaluation (ROSE) is a valuable tool for specimen adequacy assessment in thyroid ultrasound (US)‐guided fine‐needle aspiration (US‐guided FNA). To reduce the risk of nondiagnostic samples, additional needle passes may be needed at ROSE to ensure adequate sampling. Recommendations regarding the number of aspirates to ensure specimen adequacy are not well defined. Furthermore, there are limited data regarding nodule characteristics that may require increased sampling....
Abstract Pancytokeratins and TTF‐1 are used in working up carcinomas of unknown primary and p63 is expressed in many cell lineages. We present a case of a TTF‐1, p63, and cytokeratins positive small round blue cell lesion presenting in a patient with enlarged right supraclavicular lymph nodes and multiple solid pulmonary nodules. The preliminary report to the clinical team was “suspicious for carcinoma.” However, after a complete work up the final diagnosis of diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma, nongerminal...
Abstract Succinate dehydrogenase (SDH)‐deficient gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are characterized by the lack of mutations in KIT receptor tyrosine kinase complex and platelet derived growth factor receptor‐alpha (PDGFRA) that are commonly found in the majority of GISTs. SDH‐deficient GISTs comprise approximately 5%‐10% of all GISTs. This subset may be associated with Carney Triad and Carney‐Stratakis syndrome. SDH‐deficient GISTs show unique demographic, radiologic, morphologic findings,...

In contrast to previous reports from neognathous birds, in the ankle of the gull, the ascending process fuses with the astragalus rather than with the calcaneum. This type of development is present in palaeognaths and non‐avian dinosaurs but has not yet been reported in neognaths. This indicates a greater diversity within Neognathae and suggests a more complex scenario for the evolution of the avian ankle. Abstract Although the development of the avian skeleton has attracted considerable attention,...

Abstract The juxtaglomerular cell tumor (JCT) is a rare renal tumor. We re‐evaluated the clinicopathologic features of 21 JCTs to summarize their variable morphologies. Immunohistochemical, fluorescent in situ hybridization and periodic acid–Schiff stains were routinely performed, and four JCT cases were detected via transmission electron microscopy. The 21 JCTs involved five males and 16 females, ranging in age from 19 years to 69 years (mean, 36.9 years; median, 34 years). The tumors were composed...
