Personalized Medicine for allergy treatment: allergen immunotherapy still a unique and unmatched model
Abstract The introduction of personalized medicine (PM) has been a milestone in the history of medical therapy, because it has revolutionized the previous approach of treating the disease with that of treating the patient. It is known today that diseases can occur in different genetic variants, making specific treatments of proven efficacy necessary for a given endotype. Eosinophilic fasciitis in common variable immunodeficiency with hypereosinophilia
Eosinophilic fasciitis or Shulman disease is a rare disorder that presents with scleroderma-like changes of connective tissues accompanied by elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, hypergammaglobulinemia, and transient peripheral eosinophilia.1 There have been two cases of common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) associated with eosinophilic fasciitis reported in Europe. We report the first case of CVID associated with eosinophilic fasciitis in the United States in the setting of hypereosinophilia.
