Transoral robotic surgery for management of cervical unknown primary squamous cell carcinoma: Updates on efficacy, surgical technique and margin status

Cervical unknown primary squamous cell carcinoma (CUP) is defined as malignant cervical adenopathy without an identified primary site in the upper aerodigestive tract. CUP has been reported to constitute 2–4% of all head and neck malignancies and patient management remains a clinical challenge [1,2]. More recently, human papillomavirus (HPV) has been identified in a significant portion of patients with CUP [3]. When a patient presents with HPV-positive CUP, the primary lesions are typically found in the oropharynx [3,4].
