Evidence of genetic factors involved in oral lichen planus pathogenesis

Abstract

The study by Wu et al (2014), which examined the association between mtDNA haplogroups and oral lichen planus (OLP) susceptibility, identified a protective role of mitochondrial haplogroup B4 in OLP susceptibility in Chinese individuals. This study points to the importance of genetic factors in OLP pathogenesis. To date, only a limited number of studies (especially case studies) have provided evidence for the role of genetic predisposition in OLP pathogenesis.
