Pasireotide for the Treatment of Refractory Hypoglycemia from Malignant Insulinoma

Abstract

Insulinomas are rare, usually solitary benign tumors. The presence of metastases defines malignant insulinomas⁽¹⁾. Medical therapy primarily treats symptomatic hypoglycemia, alleviates symptoms, and improves the quality of life in affected individuals. While diazoxide is used as first-line therapy, the incomplete response rate and complications associated with diazoxide provide a role for somatostatin analogues in difficult-to-treat hypoglycemia_.
