Abstract

We read with interest and with full consent the new consensus‐based European guidelines for the treatment of atopic eczema, Part II¹. However, we would like to comment on the section on microbial textiles where the recommendation to use silk garments with permanent antimicrobial in the management of children with moderate to severe eczema is raised. On the basis of an UK multicenter clinical trial² which seemed to show that silk garments with permanent antimicrobial were ineffective in the treatment of children with atopic eczema, the guidelines deny now any clinical benefit of AEGIS‐coated silk textiles in children with atopic eczema and this contrary to the previous two guidelines^3,4.
