Abstract
Within the NHS and other health service providers, alphanumeric clinical coding has been introduced as a common language to interpret and compare mortality and morbidity data 1. The two systems of clinical coding commonly utilised are the International Classification of Diseases 10 (ICD-10) devised by the World Health Organisation1 and the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys 4 (OPCS-4) published in the UK by the Health and Social Care Information Centre 2.
