Abstract
Since decades, common classical indications for amino acid PET in brain tumor patients are the distinction between tumor and nontumor, the delineation of tumor extent for planning of further diagnostic or therapeutic procedures and the differentiation of tumor progression from treatment-related changes. Based on the current literature, the Response Assessment in Neuro-Oncology (RANO) Working Group has recently analyzed the clinical role of amino acid PET in the diagnostic assessment of brain tumours and strongly recommended the additional use of this imaging technique at every stage of brain tumor management. In the last few years, the application of amino acid PET has furthermore been expanded to other fields in clinical neuro-oncology such as treatment monitoring, prognostication and the use of this tool in patients with brain metastasis.
