A phase II trial of induction NAB-paclitaxel and cisplatin followed by concurrent chemoradiotherapy in patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a type of malignancy derived from the epithelial cells of the nasopharynx. And it is endemic in southern China and Southeast Asia, with an incidence of 20–50 cases per 100,000 people [1,2]. Due to the improvements of radiation technology and the incorporation of chemotherapy, encouraging local control rates (up to 97%) have been reported for locally advanced NPC (LA-NPC) [3]. However, distant metastasis (DM) remains one of the major causes of treatment failure in patients with LA-NPC [4].
