Functional and cosmetic outcomes of robot-assisted neck dissection by a postauricular facelift approach for head and neck cancer

With the advances in management of head and neck tumors, concern for postoperative quality of life (QOL) and cosmesis have increased [1,2]. Hence, various remote access neck operations via axillary, breast, anterior chest, postauricular facelift or transoral approaches with or without the assistance of surgical robots or endoscopy have been developed for thyroid, parathyroid, submandibular gland and neck masses to avoid visible neck scars [3–9]. Robot- and endoscopy-assisted neck dissection has also have been developed for head and neck cancer patients using a modified or postauricular facelift approach, axillary approach, or transaxillary and retroauricular (TARA) approach to avoid long trans-cervical scars [10–22].
