We read with great interest your special edition 'The Mouth and AIDS' (Vol 22, Supplement S1, April 2016) which highlighted the important and oft ignored issue of oral health in people living with HIV. Oral disease appears common in the setting of HIV, with rates of chronic periodontitis reported to be as high as 76% in HIV-positive individuals (Kroidl, Schaeben, Oette et al., 2005),
